2/12/09 07:06 am - lol I like this

Today, I got a text message. It said, "I'm so drunk. What you up to, girl?" It was my dad. FML

hahahahaha

2/8/09 01:39 pm - this is apparently where I bitch about school now

OK, WHENEVER THERE IS A MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTION

WITH THE OPTION ALL OF THE ABOVE

THERE IS AN 80% CHANCE I WILL OVERTHINK IT AND GET IT WRONG.

:(

IN OTHER NEWS, HERE IS A PICTURE I LIKE:

1/12/09 10:23 pm - adglhjglhsblahblahblah

Today was so, so long.

blaaahhhh night school.

I started to space out in the middle of class. I felt like I was literally asleep but I could like...still take notes. I just couldn't understand what I was writing. Or what I was hearing! It was actually kind of scary for a second, like maybe I was ~*dead*~

But the girl I was sitting next to bought me a cookie! And we exchanged phone numbers.

I mean, in an entirely non dykey way.

I RODE THE BUS A LOT OF TIMES TODAY.
AND ALSO WALKED AROUND A LOT LOOKING FOR MY BUS STOPS.

THEN I ATE A BURGERVILLE BURGER.

THAT WAS A GOOD STORY, HUH GUYS?

1/9/09 12:27 pm - BOY IS MY FACE RED

I HAVEN'T POSTED IN A WHILE, BECAUSE I'M SO ASHAMED I FAILED MY MOVIE WATCHING GOAL.

INSTEAD OF WATCHING 4 NEW MOVIES TO MEET MY GOAL, I REWATCHED:

INDIANA JONES RAIDERS
INDIANA JONES TEMPLE
IRON MAN
and
MAMMA MIA!

FAIL FAIL FAIL FAIL. I PROBABLY DO NOT DESERVE TO LIVE.

12/13/08 10:34 am - this post is a bit overdue

But honestly,

Milk? BEST MOVIE I'VE SEEN ALL YEAR.

Seriously, so, so good. Gus Van Sant is gshjdlghjgjlds amazing, and I liked Milk even better than Elephant, which was in that dreamy style I love. Milk wasn't dreamy (for the most part) but it was...basically perfect.

So yeah, according to me: Milk = Best Picture

But then again, I haven't seen Four Christmases yet.

I need 5 more movies to meet my movie goals!!

12/2/08 06:49 pm - just pretend my icon is barfing

Well, this is certainly the grossest lead-in I've ever read:

He's only 9, but this pint-sized pickup artist already knows plenty about pleasing the ladies.

(sauce)

12/1/08 02:58 pm - ack + yay

My cousin told me Sherman Alexie died and I TOTALLY FREAKED OUT. I kind of thought she might be wrong but I couldn't bring myself to look into it, just in case she was right.

But he's still alive. That's a relief. WHERE DO MY COUSINS GET THEIR INFORMATION?

Sherman Alexie, ILU.

Oh hey, btw, I won nanowrimo! Cue mad revisions over the next couple of months!

11/27/08 09:38 pm - THANK YOU

Quick thank you to everyone who left me comments on my last "I NEED ADVICE" post!

YOU ARE ALL AWESOME FRIENDS <3 Thanks so much, guys!

I would respond individually, but I'm on dial-up (yes, some people DO still have it!) and should be relishing those last few hours with the family <3 <3 <3 So excuse my tacky, please! D:

ETA: Other people saw the RickRoll during the Thanksgiving Day Parade, right?

11/12/08 01:31 pm - dammit

I opened a Just Out and learned that The Fashion was at the Wonder Ballroom on the 10th (opening for someone else, but still) and I missed them D: I HAVEN'T BEEN TO A SHOW IN SO LONG. THIS IS DEPRESSING.

Sometimes I want to get a myspace just to follow these smaller name bands I like.

UGH, I JUST WANT TO GO TO A GOOD SHOW AGAIN. IS THAT SO MUCH TO ASK?

I guess I could just start going to cheap shows for bands I don't know. I'd be bound to hit a good one sooner or later that way...

11/11/08 11:18 pm - nanowrimo stuff (x-posted)

This was the kind of stuff TV-dads would tell you was character-building.

That was what I said to Adam Gozman, actually. It was basically the first thing I ever said to him. We were pounding a brick in place together, taking turns. There was dust everywhere, in my eyes. He started laughing when I said that, character-building, and then he started coughing and he was like,

"Fuck character-building."

[info]flourish told me I was being really secretive about what my nanowrimo novel was about...I'm not trying to be secretive, really, I'm just not very good at describing my WsIP.

The story so far is what the 16 year old narrator, Dillon, has chosen to tell us about his life. His Mom lost her job and nursing license after she killed a patient; his Dad and brother are virtual strangers, finally back from England, where they have been for the past twelve years; his new friend, Adam, is the class jerk, but that's why Dillon likes him so much; and someone keeps calling and leaving messages for Dillon, but he's not telling us much about that part.

Here are some snippets I kind of liked.

And, oh dear, they are all unedited.

push it in, then pull it out, which sounds kind of haha sexy or maybe like the hokey-pokey in retrospect )

Do you want my nanowrimo soundtrack? GET IT HERE! It's worth d/ling just for the songs by The Ballet. And 'Girls Room' by Liz Phair. Unless you know, you hate free music or something?

11/4/08 09:30 am - THIS IS EXCITING

What's everyone doing for election night?

Is anyone going to the Doug Fir?

INQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW

10/24/08 02:23 pm - SUCCESS

HEY GUYS, I CLEANED MY HOUSE.

LOL IT TOOK WAY LESS TIME THAN I THOUGHT IT WOULD. NOW I ALMOST FEEL BAD FOR PUTTING IT OFF FOR A WEEK.

10/16/08 02:52 pm - WARNING: NOT A MEME

I TEND TO POST SPAM IN 2s.

Ok, so the StuffWhitePeopleLike guy is apparently going to come to Powell's to read and talk about his internet fame. I'm torn between thinking this will be fun (and hey, it's free) or this will be really lame and I'm better off staying home and watching Arrested Development on DVD.

Just for fun I wanted to borrow the Stuff White People Like master list and see how well it applies to me.

I'M BOLDING ALL THE THINGS ON THIS LIST THAT I LIKE.  AND STRIKING OUT THE THINGS I HATE/AM OVER.  IF I DIDN'T TOUCH IT I DON'T FEEL STRONGLY EITHER WAY.  OR MAYBE I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

WARNING: THIS IS NOT A MEME.

While going over this, I realized I'm not that hip for a white person :( Would you know I've never even listeneing to NPR??  I've had friends talking about it since high school and I just smile and nod. NOW YOU KNOW MY TERRIBLE SECRET.

A lot of the stuff on the list I thought "sometimes I say I like that...but I don't really show it very well" like Whole Foods and farmer's markets, for example.  I tell people I like Whole Foods if they ask, but I usually shop at Safeway (SHUT UP). So to be fair, I didn't bold it.  I think I got 25/111. Boo.  WHAT CAN I DO TO BE HIPPER?  PLEASE HELP.

10/16/08 01:44 pm - debate highlights

Highlights from last night's debate in which I yelled SHUT THE FUCK UP, JOHN MCCAIN more times than in the previous debates put together:

Joe The Plumber. Again, and again, and again.

John McCain getting really butthurt about Obama's "negative campaign." OMG YOUR WHITE MALE PRIVILEGE IS SHOWING.

McCain putting finger quotes around "the woman's health" as part of the abortion debate. Classy!

McCain blowing his line about gold-plated cadillac healthcare plans which cover things like "cosmetic surgery and transplants." We hope he meant "hair transplants" (as in, a dig at Biden per the previous debate). Not that it makes it much better. Because who has health insurance that covers those?

Obama often repeated himself in response to McCain's accusations about his policies...we heard 95% many, many times. I think the fact that Obama was able to counter McCain simply by repeating himself shows how petty and pointless McCain's jabs were.

Some undecided voter (hurf) said she thought Obama laid out his health care plan better in this debate than he had before. I'd disagree with this. I'm still not totally sold on Obama's plan, but it's less of a clusterfuck than McCain's, at least.

Yeah, it would be nice to cut everyone's taxes but then, where is the money coming from? My very-conservative grandma said the other day, "Well, I don't mind paying more taxes. Someone's got to pay them, right?" If you're in that over-a-quarter-mil/year tax bracket, it's likely losing your Bush era tax cuts is not going to force you to alter your lifestyle. Whereas if you're in a middle-class bracket (Obama's 95%) you've probably already had to alter it a little.

Ok, I'll shut up now. Peace.

10/14/08 02:12 pm - i know nothing about everything

oh, so when I was on the street today, a guy from HRC said,

"did you know it's still legal in 31 states to fire someone just for being gay?"

I totally didn't know that there was nothing protecting GLBT people in the language of the federal anti- discrimination laws. I had to look it up because I figured there must be some umbrella term or something in there, but there's not :O

But if a case of someone being fired because of their sexual orientation ever made it to the Supreme Court, that would probably be found unconstitutional, right? Like, shouldn't that be protected in the constitution? :/

I did learn that some states have laws against discrimination because of weight.

10/14/08 11:21 am - halp, need advice

I need a website. It would be great to have a domain.

Do any of y'all have hosting recommendations? It would be nice to have unlimited bandwidth and a large storage space as I'd like to host art samples/comic stuff. I haven't worked out how much I can spend, but $10/mo seems like it should get me started.

I looked at doteasy and godaddy and they both seemed like decent, cheap options, unless I'm missing something dire here. So, any other recommendations? :D

10/10/08 12:06 pm - COMCAST, WHY DO YOU SUCK??

UGGGH I CAN'T REMEMBER THE LAST TIME I WAS THIS PISSED OFF

OK, SO I GET A BILL IN THE MAIL TODAY TELLING ME MY COMCAST PAYMENT IS OVERDUE

FUNNY THING IS, I'M SET UP TO AUTOPAY AND IT'S WORKED SO FAR. SO I GO ONLINE TO LOOK AT MY ACCOUNT AND IT SAYS:

Payment Due Date AUTOPAY $ 59.98

AUTO PAYMENT WILL BE MADE ON 10/09/08

OK, SO THE PROBLEM IS...TODAY IS 10/10/08. AND TODAY, THEY TACKED ON A LATE FEE!

WTFFFFF. SO I CALL CUSTOMER CARE AND ALTHOUGH THE FIRST PERSON I TALK TO SEEMS COMPETENT (he was like "That is weird, it looks like it should have paid") HE TRANSFERS ME TO SOMEONE IN BILLING WHO KEEPS ASKING

"how can I hep you today?"

"yes but, how can I hep you today?"

EVEN THOUGH I HAVE REPEATEDLY EXPLAINED THE SITUATION TO HER. I'M NOT CONVINCED SHE SPEAKS ENGLISH VERY WELL. THEN SHE PUTS ME ON HOLD FOR LIKE AN HOUR AND COMES BACK WITH:

"Well, the autopayment doesn't work if you don't have sufficient funds in your account. So you must not have sufficient funds. You need to go online and pay it manually from another account."

UH, MAYBE THIS IS SOMETHING THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO SAY TO YOU? LIKE FROM A SCRIPT? BUT I JUST FOUND IT REALLY INSULTING. LIKE, DON'T YOU THINK I WOULD HAVE CHECKED THAT BEFORE I CALLED YOU CLOWNS? THIS IS THE ONLY EXPLANATION SHE OFFERS ME EVEN THOUGH I KEEP SAYING THAT CAN'T BE RIGHT BECAUSE I'M LOOKING AT MY BANK STATEMENT ONLINE ~*RIGHT NOW*~ AND I HAVE MORE THAN 59.98 K THX.

SO I TELL HER THERE'S NO WAY I DON'T HAVE SUFFICIENT FUNDS IN THAT ACCOUNT, CAN I TALK TO YOUR SUPERVISOR? AND SHE PUTS ME ON HOLD FOR ANOTHER YEAR AND COMES BACK WITH

"Ok, in the next 24 hours someone will check on your bank account. They'll call you, and if you have sufficient funds, we'll erase the late fee."

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?

I'M SOOOOOO PISSED RIGHT NOW.

10/9/08 12:15 am - another important political post

10/7/08 01:27 pm - so I guess this is "THE CONTROVERSIAL SURVEY"

IDK, people keep reposting this. I filled it out and I guess I'm not as opinionated as I thought. HERE, HAVE SOME HYPNOCAT TO GO ALONG WITH.

[01] Do you have the guts to answer these questions and re-post as The Controversial Survey?

LOL.

[02] Would you do meth if it was legalized?

Noooo no no no. It'd pretty far down on the list of things I'd spend my money on, ever. I probably woudn't even do it if it were free.

03] Abortion: for or against it?

I'd never get an abortion unless my life was in danger or there was something seriously wrong with the baby. But I don't think the government should dictate what you can and can't do in this area.

[04] Do you think the world would fail with a female president?

Female president...OF THE WORLD? Um, this question is stupid. I don't think women are inferior to men, if that's what this is asking? Next.

[05] Do you believe in the death penalty?

Not really. Maybe some people deserve it, but who are we to judge?

[06] Do you wish marijuana would be legalized already?

Yes. SO MUCH SAFER THAN ALCOHOL IN EVERY WAY, COME ON D:

[07] Are you for or against premarital sex?

People need to decide what's right for them. Though the term itself is pretty hetero-normative and kind of irks me when I hear it.

[08] Do you believe in God?

Yes.

[09] Do you think same sex marriage should be legalized?

Yes. And I think (I'M LOOKING AT YOU, JOE BIDEN...AND EVERYONE ELSE INVOLVED IN THE PRESIDENTIAL RACE*) worrying about the term "marriage" getting redefined is retarded. By calling it "gay marriage" or "same sex marriage" YOU'RE ALREADY USING A DIFFERENT TERM. And people who care about the "redefinition" thing are never going to call it just "marriage," so why not let everyone else have that term? DOES NOT COMPUTE.

[10] Do you think it's wrong that so many Hispanics are illegally moving to the USA?

I think it's part of a larger problem that's more "wrong." (The wording on this question makes me uncomfortable. Anyone feel that?)

[11] A twelve year old girl has a baby, should she keep it?

Well she shouldn't be forced to give it up, provided she has family willing to help her take care of it, I guess...

[12] Should the alcohol age be lowered to eighteen?

Ok, but everyone should have to take an alcohol safety course to get a "drinking license." I think people who are stupid about booze at 18 will still be stupid at 21. Remember that "21 shots" trend?

[13] Should the war in Iraq be called off?

CALL IT OFF.

[14] Assisted suicide is illegal: do you agree?

I'm ambivalent. (Sorry.)

[15] Do you believe in spanking your children?

Not really.

[16] Would you burn an American flag for a million dollars?

Probably.

[17] Who do you think would make a better president? McCain or Obama?

Ron Paul Obama.

[18] Are you afraid others will judge you from reading some of your answers?

Judge away <3

*But especially Joe Biden, since IL him otherwise. Frown >(
